West to Star and Direct at Chichester
Samuel West is to direct one play and appear in two others this summer at Chichester. He will direct Helen Cooper's Three Women and a Piano Tuner and star in The Master and Margarita and Doctor Faustus.

Law to Front Young Vic Campaign
Jude Law is to be the public face to the Young Vic's campaign to raise £2.5m for its much needed refurbishment. £5m has already been raised and the same amount is expected to come from the National Lottery, leaving the £2.5m which is the aim of the current appeal to be raised.

Young Vic director David Lan admitted that it will be impossible for the theatre to continue to operate in its current state. In fact, he said, it is finding it impossible to comply with incoming health and safety regulations.

Syal Joins Bombay Dreams
Actress and writer Meera Syal is to join the casr of Bombay Dreams for one week from 16th March. Syal is the writer of the musical.

Round Dance at the Roundhouse
The undercroft of London's Roundhouse is to be the setting for a new production of Arthur Schitzler’s The Round Dance, the play which inspired the film La Ronde and David Hare's The Blue Room. Running from 17th February to 12th Match, it is produced by Angels In The Architecture and Full Circle. The venue is to be refurbished after the production closes.

Wimbledon Re-opens
The Wimbledon Theatre, now renamed as the New Wimbledon Theatre, re-opened this week (11th February) under the control of the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), with Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!.

The theatre will continue as a receiving house, as it was when run by the Wimbledon Theatre Trust, and in its programme for the coming months will feature, among others, The Play What I Wrote, Blood Brothers, Crazy for You, Saturday Night Fever, Tell Me on a Sunday, Grease, Full Circle, The Full Monty, Taboo, Carousel, All the Best Books (Abridged) and Cats.

Dobson to Replace Lipman in Millie
Anita Dobson is to replace Maureen Lipman in Thoroughly Modern Millie. She starts a six-month run in the musical on 1st March, while Lipman's final performance will be on 28th February.

Extending

  • Thoroughly Modern Millie extends to 15th January, 2005.
  • Anything Goes now booking to 28th August (2004)
