Steven Berkoff

New Berkoff at New End
The New End Theatre is to premiere Steven Berkoff's new play Sit and Shiver this month. Some of the characters in the play, which is set in London's East End where Berkoff was born, are based on his family background. Berkoff himself directs and the cast is Catherine Bailey, Leila Crerar, Barry Davis, Iddo Goldberg, Linal Haft, Louise Jameson, Sue Kelvin, Saul Reichlin and Bernice Stegers.

The play opens on 29th May (previews from 24th) and runs until 2nd July.

Crucible Out, Tales In
The RSC production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible at the Gielgud Theatre is to finish a week early on 10th June, and it will be followed into the theatre by the company's production of The Canterbury Tales, which has just returned from the Kennedy Centre, Washington, after a UK tour.

The early closure of The Crucible is due to star Iain Glen's filming commitments.

The Canterbury Tales, which includes all 23 of Chaucer's tales, is performed in two parts, each lasting three hours.

Redgrave and Holt Support Museum
On Tuesday evening (16th May) Vanessa Redgrave and Thelma Holt will jointly host a reception in support of the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. Attending will be Redgrave's sisten Lynn and Trevor Nunn, Mark Rylance, Victoria Hamilton, Peter Bowles and Kika Markham. On 18th May the Trustees of the Victoria and Albert museum, of which the Theatre Museum is part, will meet to decide its fate.

Derek Jacobi

Donmar Casts Voyage
The Donmar Warehouse has announced the cast for its revival of John Mortimer's A Voyage Round My Father. Joining the already-announced Derek Jacobi are Joanna David, Dominic Rowan, Christopher Benjamin, Lily Bevan, Neil Boorman, Osmund Bullock, Jamie De Courcey, Natasha Little, Sadie Shimmin, Katie Warren, Lewis Aaltonen, Charlie Bollands, Edward Jackson-Keen, Sonny Muharrem, Jolyon Price and Piers Stubbs.

Thea Sharrock directs the production which runs from 13th June (previews from 8th) to 5th August.

Jeffrey Bernard is Revived
A revival of Keith Waterhouse's Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell, directed by Ned Sherrin and featuring Tom Conti, opens at the Garrick on 19th June (previews from 12th), booking until 2nd September. It follow One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which will close as planned on 3rd June.

McCafferty to Direct in London
Belfast playwright Owen McCafferty is to direct the UK premiere of his new play Cold Comfort at Theatre 503 in Battersea. The one-man play, which stars Patrick O'Kane, premiered in Belfast last year. Its Belfast revival finishes today (14th May) and the Lonodn production will run from 16th May to 3rd June.

RSC Breakfast to Close Early
The RSC production of Breakfast with Mugabe, which transferred to the Duchess Theatre after a run at the Soho, will close two weeks early, on 27th May.

Extending
Two West End shows have announced extensions:

  • Mamma Mia! (Prince of Wales) is now booking to 29 September, 2007
  • The Mousetrap (St Martin's) is now booking to 4th November
