Sir Peter Hall

Hall and Barbican in Godot Row
According to a story in the Independent, Sir Peter Hall, the Barbican and Dublin's Gate Theatre are locked in a fierce war of words over proposed productions of Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Hall includes the play in his current Bath season and was hoping to take it to London - to the Arts Theatre where he directed the original London production about fifty years ago. However the Barbican, in conjunction with the Gate, Dublin, have the current rights to a London production and propose to open it early next year.

They have offered Hall the rights to a London run before 1st September but he has not been able to meet the deadline and now he is reported to be "livid" and the Gate director Michael Colgan accuses him of "bullying".

Hall's production at the Bath Theatre Royal opens on 16th August.

Adam Cooper Sarah Wildor

Cooper and Wildor Star at Sevenoaks Studio
Adam Cooper and Sarah Wildor are to appear in their first play together in Peta Murray's play Wallflowering produced by Sevenoaks Playhouse in their Studio theatre, opening on 30th September (Preview 29th September) and running until 22nd October.

Strictly Ballroom meets Shirley Valentine in this comedy about love, marriage and ballroom dancing. Peg and Cliff love to dance. Their foxtrot is fantastic and their tango is terrific. But Cliff has always dreamed of being special and Peg's friends are worried she's not happy. Can Peg and Cliff follow their dreams and still dance to the same rhythm?

Cooper and his real-life wife Sarah Wildor will play the entire cast: a suburban Australian couple who love to ballroom dance, but as their marriage begins to crumble, find it increasingly difficult to keep in step with each other. The play includes short dance sequences, which counterpoint the scenes.
