Hall and Barbican in
Godot Row
According to a story in the Independent, Sir Peter Hall, the Barbican
and Dublin's Gate Theatre are locked in a fierce war of words over proposed
productions of Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Hall includes the
play in his current Bath season and was hoping to take it to London
- to the Arts Theatre where he directed the original London production
about fifty years ago. However the Barbican, in conjunction with the
Gate, Dublin, have the current rights to a London production and propose
to open it early next year.
They have offered Hall the rights to a London run before 1st September
but he has not been able to meet the deadline and now he is reported
to be "livid" and the Gate director Michael Colgan accuses
him of "bullying".
Hall's production at the Bath Theatre Royal opens on 16th August.

the same rhythm?
