Dirty Dancing
Takes £3m in Six Weeks
Although it has not yet been cast, the West End stage version of the
popular 1987 film has taken advanced bookings of over £3m in the
six weeks since booking opened.
Dirty Dancing begins previews at the Aldwych on 29th September
and opens on 24th October. Auditions are currently being held for the
two leads, Baby and Johnny.
From Hay Fever to Seven Brides
The touring production of Seven
Brides for Seven Brothers will arrive at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
in August (dates to be announced) after it is vacated by Sir Peter Hall's
production of Coward's Hay Fever, starring Judi Dench and Peter
Bowles, on 5th August.
Seven Brides, which stars Dave Willetts and Shona Lindsay, is
currently on tour.
Muriel Spark (1918 -
2006)
Dame Muriel Spark, the author of the novel The Prime of Miss Jean
Brodie on which both the film and play were based, has died in Florence
at the age of 88. She converted to Catholicism in 1954 and moved to
Italy in 1967, where she has lived ever since. She had suffred ill health
for the last year. Her last novel, The Finishing School, was
published in 2004.
