Stones Will Continue After All

Because of increased demand for tickets after its closure was announced, Marie Jones' Stones in His Pockets (New Ambassadors) will now remain open until at least 15th May. The decision to close was announced in December last.

Anderson Will but Flockhart Won't
Gillian Anderson will be returning to the West End this year in Rebecca Gilman’s The Sweetest Swing in Baseball (Royal Court Theatre Downstairs), which runs from 31st March (previews from 25th) to 1st May. She came to England during last year to take part in workshop of the play.

On the other hand, Callista Flockhart, whose proposed West End debut has been on and off, will definitely not be starrring in a new West End production if Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie. She wishes, she says, to spend more time with her boyfriend Harrison Ford. It is not yet known if the production will go ahead with someone else in the title role.

Gielgud Centenary Gala
The Royal Shakespeare Company, RADA, The Shakespeare Guild, Bill Kenwright and Thelma Holt are joining together to present a gale evening celebrating the centenary of Sir John Gielgud at the Gielgud Theatre on 19th April. Among those staking part will be Dame Judi Dench.

ENO Return Delayed
English National Opera (ENO) will not return to its home at the Coliseum until two weeks later than planned. The new season will now open on 21st February. The theatre has been closed since last summer and the company has been based in the Barbican while £41m worth of redevelopment was carried out.

Oliviers Will Not be Broadcast
This year's Olivier Awards ceremony will not be broadcast. The BBC has decided that it no longer wants to broadcast one-off arts events, so this will be the first tinme since the awards were instituted that they have not been broadcast.

Beckett Is the Subject of a New Play
Samuel Beckett is to be the subject of a new play which opens in the West End in March. Calico by Michael Hastings deals with the relationship between Beckett and Lucis, the daughter of James Joyce. It opens at the Duke of York's on 3rd March, after previewing from 19th February.

Calico will succeed Sweet Panic which closes at the Duke of York's on 7th February.

Nighy to Star in Galaxy Film
Bill Nighy is to star in a new film of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy. He will play Slartibartfast, planetary architect, whilst The Office's Martin Freeman will play Arthur Dent.

Les Mis to Transfer Early
Les Miserables is to transfer to the Queen's Theatre eleven days earlier than planned. It will now move in on 1st April.
