Morse Will Return
ITV is planning the return of Inspector Morse. A new two-part
story is planned, based around Morse's sidekick, Sgt Lewis (Kevin Whately).
Both Sheila Hancock, John Thaw's wife, and writer Colin Dexter have
agreed to the new programme but it has not yet been decided whether
or not Dexter will write the piece.
This kind of sequel is not unknown, even to keeping the name. The Scottish
crime drama Taggart has continued for many years after the death of
actor Mark McManus, who played the eponymous hero, under that title.
ITV are also considering the return of Rumpole of the Bailey
- Albert Finney has been approached to play the part made famous by
Leo McKern - and is in discussions with Sean Bean about a new Sharpe
drama.
