The late Dan Crawford behind the bar of the King's Head

Gala Nights at the King's Head
Islington's Kings Head Theatre, in association with Dragonfly Films, is to present a series of gala evenings to add a gallery of 100 seats, refurbish the theatre and create its own productions. Working conditions at the theatre, they acknowldge, are "less than ideal" and so to address that and the size of the theatre they have begun a drive to raise the roof, add seats, refurbish the ground floor, push back the stage to make it larger, and create a green room and better dressing room for actors, while maintaining the atmosphere.

The gala events will be held on Sunday and Monday evenings throughout the year. Some of these evenings will be musical tributes, Variety, interviews, informals and high profile play readings.

Among those who have confirmed are Linda Marlowe, Peter Straker, Steven Berkoff, James Taylor Quartet, Toby Young & Lloyd Evans, Frances Ruffelle and her jazz band, Sir John Mortimer, Anita Dobson, Mandy Muden and an evening with Dr Robert Le Fever. High profile readings include The Rainmaker with Brendan Coyle and Clare Booth Luce’s The Women. London’s top Musical Directors Mike Reed and Mike Dixon will be doing a tribute evening to King's Head founder Dan Crawford and a Vivian Ellis tribute evening.
