The Birthday Party
to Close Early
In spite of having just announced a one week extension to its booking
period (to 16th July), the revival of Pinter's The
Birthday Party at the Duchess Theatre will close on 25th June.
The production stars Eileen Atkins and Henry Goodman.
It opened on 25th April (previewing from 20th), after transferring
from the Birmingham Rep.
Barrowman Is One of
A Few Good Men
John Barrowman will join Rob Lowe and Suranne Jones in the cast of Aaron
Sorkin's A Few Good Men at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It first
appeared was on Broadway in 1989 with Tom Hulce in the leading role,
and was made into a film which starred Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and
Kevin Bacon, in 1992.
A Few Good Men begins previews on 18th August and opens on 6th
September.
Behind the Iron
Mask
Three Degrees singer Sheila Ferguson is to appear in Behind the Iron
Mask, a new musical based upon Alexander Dumas' novel The Man
in the Iron Mask. Ferguson plays the Gypsy in the show which has
music and lyrics by John Robinson, with book by Colin Scott and Melinda
Walker. Her last West End appearance was in Thoroughly Modern Millie
and she starred in the 1992 ITV sitcom Land Of Hope And Gloria.
Also in the cast is Robert Fardell (Les Miserables, Evita
and Heathcliff).
Behind the Iron Mask opens at the Duchess on 2nd August (previews
from 20th July).
Theatre Access
A working group on access for disabled people to London theatres will
be held at the Prince of Wales on 22nd September. Jointly organised
by the Arts access charity Shape and Audiences London, the event will
provide a forum for theatre managers to discuss access and come up with
strategies for dealing with problems.
Extending
Fame (Aldwych) has extended by six months to 29th April, 2006,
and Brooke Shields has extended her run in as Roxie Hart in Chicago
(Adelphi) by five weeks, to 30th July.
