Jerry Zaks

US Director for Spacey's First Old Vic Outing
US director Jerry Zaks will direct Kevin Spacey's first performance in his time as artistic director at the Old Vic. The Phildelphia Story will run from 3rd May to 23rd July.

Although a well-known name on Broadway, Zaks is not so well-known in the UK, where his best known productions are Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Six Degrees of Separation.

Jude Law

Law to Play Hamlet?
According to Variety, the first moves are being made towards a production of Hamlet, starring Jude Law, by the Young Vic. The director would be David Lan and it is suggested that the production could be as far off as the early part of 2006.

Emma Ferguson

Ferguson Replaces Goodey
Emma Ferguson will replace Fritha Goodey in the tour of Terrence Rattigan's Man and Boy, which is directed by Maria Aiken and stars David Suchet. Fritha Goodey was found dead in her flat two weeks ago.

The production will open on time (22nd September) at the Yvonne Arnaud, Guildford, and will then go on to Cambridge, Cork, Bath, Malvern, Brighton, Plymouth, Oxford and Richmond.

Getting More Murderous!
After last week's revelations by Nichola McAuliffe about the less than happy prpduction of Murderous Instincts, it is now reported that the previews have been put back yet again (to 27th September), that sacked director Bob Carlton, with the help of Equity, is considering legal action against producer Manny Fox who gave him a public dressing down over a poor review at the Norwich Theatre Royal , that (according to The Independent) there are marital problems between writer Cinda Fox and her producer husband, and that new director Michael Rooney has had to leave the UK for France so as to be able to apply for a work permit.

The show will still have its opening night on 7th October.

Hall to Play Calamity Jane
Jerry Hall is to play Calamity Jane in My Darlin' Janey, a new one-woman show by Douglas Squires, which opens at the King's Head Theatre on 5th October (previews from 19th), running until 28th November. The play is based on a diary of letters to her daughter, "darlin’ Janey", by Wild Bill Hickock whom she gave up for adoption. It is directed by Angela Richards.
