Anything Goes
on Tour
A new tour of Cole Porter's classic Anything Goes, starring TV
newsreader Angela Rippon as Evangeline Harcourt, Michael Starke (Moonface
Martin) and Barry Howard (Elisha Whitney), will open at The Lowry, Salford,
on Friday 27th January, where it will run until 4th February. It then
goes on to Southampton, Woking, Brighton, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Glasgow,
Darlington, Cardiff, Nottingham, Wimbledon, Norwich, Stoke, Bradford,
Liverpool, Milton Keynes and Newcastle, with other dates to be announced.
French, Moyet and Burke Together
Comedienne Dawn French and pop singer Alison Moyet are to star in a
new play by Carmel Morgan at the Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue. Smaller,
directed by Kathy Burke, opens on 4th April, 2006 (previews from 27th
March), after a six week tour.
Rings
London Premiere in 2007
The Lord of the Rings will have its London premiere in 2007,
a year after it opens in Toronto, its producers have announced. Its
world premiere will be at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre on 23rd
March, 2006. No London theatre has yet been fixed, although the producers
had hoped to premiere the show at the Dominion instead of in Toronto,
but it is not available.
It is not, Kevin Wallace who is the British producer, a musical but
"a blend of play and musical and spectacular design." There
will, he assures us, "be no singing and dancing hobbits."
Matthew Warchus is the director, with choeography by Peter Darling.
Tamasha to Stage Booker
Novel
Asian theatre company Tamasha is to stage Rohinton Mistrys novel
A Fine Balance in a devised adaptation at the Hampstead Theatre
from 11th to 28th January, 2006. The novel was shortlisted for the Booker
Prize in 1995.
Friedman Broadway Debut
after Cancer Op
Maria Friedman made her Broadway debut in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical
The Woman in White at the Marquis Theater on Thursday (17th November),
just two weeks after an operation to remove a malignant tumour from
her left breast.
High Society
to Close Early
The production of High Society at the Shaftesbury Theatre will
close on 21st January. It was originally booking until 25th March.
Flatley's Celtic
Tiger in Short UK Tour
Irish dancer Michael Flatley will be taking his latest show, Celtic
Tiger, to six UK arena venues as part of an international tour.
The show, a history of Ireland in dance, opens at the Newcastle Metro
Radio Arena on 22nd April, 2006, before going on to Sheffield, Wembley,
Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.
