Eccleston to Be New
Dr Who
Christopher Eccleston is to be the new Dr Who when the series returns
(after popular demand over many years) in 2005. According to executive
producer and writer Russell T Davies, "This man can give the Doctor
a wisdom, wit and emotional range as far-reaching as the Doctor's travels
in time and space."
The new series will start shooting in Cardiff later this year.
Bloom and Hunter to
Star in Whistling Psyche
Claire Bloom and Kathryn Hunter are to star in Sebastian Barry's Whistling
Psyche which premieres at the Almeida on 12th May (previews from
7th). Bloom will play Florence Nightingale and Hunter the mysterious
Dr James Barry. The play will be directed by Robert Delemere.
Fuddy Mears
Casting
The cast for David Lindsay-Abaires play Fuddy Mears, which
opens at Brirmingham Rep on 16th April before transferring to the Arts
Theatre, will include Scream and Scooby-Do star Matthew
Lillard, Tony Award-winning Katie Finneran, Julia McKenzie and Nicholas
Le Prevost. Directed by Angus Jackson, it is a co-production between
the Birmingham Rep, SCAMP and Edward Snape.
Fitzgerald Musical
Casting
Some casting for the forthcoming musical about F Scott Fitzgerald, The
Beautiful and the Damned, has been announced. Michael Praed will
play Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda will be played by Helen Anker. Also
in the cast are David Burt (Judge Sayre) and Susannah Fellows (Minnie
Sayre). It opens at London's Lyric Theatre on 10th May (previews from
28th April). It is initially booking to 14th August.

Will Online
The National Archives have put a facsimile of Shakespeare's will (in
which he famously left his wife is "second best bed") online.
Dated 25th March, 1616, it was written less than a month before Shakespeare
died.

Extending/Closing
The following extensions/closures have been announced:
- The Mousetrap (St Martin's) has extended to 27th November
- The RSC's All's Well That Ends Well, starring Judi Dench
(Gielgud), extends by two weeks to 8th May
- Round the Horne...Revisited (The Venue) has extended to 18th
September
Stones in His Pockets (New Ambassadors) is now confirmed to
close on 1st May, two weeks earlier than planned.
