Withnail on Stage
A stage version of the 1987 film Withnail and I which starred
Richard E Grant, Paul McGann and Richard Griffiths, could come to the
West End next year, financial documents from HandMade Films reveal.
Although no firm dates or casting have yet been agreed, the company's
chairman Patrick Meehan told The Independent that Jude Law has been
approached about the possibility of his playing Withnail.
Sound of Music
Dates Confirmed
It has been confirmed that the Andrew Lloyd Webber/David Ian production
of The Sound of Music will open at the London Palladium on 14th
November (previews from 3rd). No casting has been announced and the "reality"
TV show to find a new actress to play Maria, How
Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, airs on the BBC in mid-July.
To allow time for preparations to go ahead, the show currently at the Palladium,
Sinatra, will close
three weeks early, on 16th September, although a spokesman for the producers
said that they are "currently considering offers to take productions
of Sinatra to Asia, Europe, United States and South America in 2007."
Guys and Dolls
to Tour
Michael Grandage's Donmar Warehouse production of Guys and Dolls,
currently playing at the Piccadilly Theatre, will set off on a national
tour on 16th September at the King's Thatre, Glasgow, and then goes
on to Cardiff, Stoke, Woking, Birmingham, Plymouth, Sunderland, Milton
Keynes, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton, Oxford before
finishing on 9th June, 2007, in Liverpool.
Acorn Antiques
to Tour
Victoria Wood's musical Acorn Antiques begins a national tour
at the Lowry, Salford Quays, where it plays for three weeks from 11th
December. The only other confirmed date at the moment is a week at the
Birmingham Hippodrome in March.
No casting has been announced, but Victoria Wood will direct.
