Jacobi Returns to Sheffield
Derek Jacobi returns to the Sheffield Crucible this autumn for Michael
Grandage's final production there. He will appear in Don Carlos
by Schiller, in a new version by Mike Poulton. He is joined in the cast
by Una Stubbs, Claire Price and Richard Coyle. Coyle plays the title
role, with Jacobi as his father, Philip II of Spain.
The production runs from 1st October to 6th November (previews from
22nd September).
Gambon to Play Falstaff
Michael Gambon will play Falstaff in the National Theatre productions
of Henry IV Parts I and II in the spring of next year.
It will be the first play of the 2005 Travelex £10 season and
will be directed by Nicholas Hytner.
A Class Premiere at
the Landor
A Class Act, a musical based on the life of the lyricist of A
Chorus Line, Edward Kleban, will have its UK premiere at London's
Landor Theatre on 6th September. It was first seen at the 150-seater
Manhattan Theatre Club, then transferred to the Ambassador Theatre on
Broadway. The Landor has 60 seats.
Edfringe Shows Head
South
Two one-man shows from the Edinburgh Fringe are to move south during
September. Fringe First winner Thom Paine (Based on Nothing)
will play at London's Soho Theatre from 3rd to 24th September, after
which it will move to New York.
Private Peaceful, adapted by Simon Reade from the novel by Michael
Morpugo will run at the Bristol Old Vic from 8th to 23th September,
and then it, too, goes to the Soho (29th September to 10th October).
