Casting News
The past week has been a big one for news of casting for the West End,
the London fringe and touring shows:
According to the Daily Mail, there will be major changes in the cast
of Mary Poppins on 31st October. Scarlet Strallen, it
says, will take over as Mary from Laura Michelle Kelly, Aden Gillet
replaces Daid Haig as Mr Banks and Eliza Lumley follows Linzi Hateley
as Mrs Banks.
At the Donmar Warehouse, the cast for David Eldridge's new version
of Ibsen's The Wild Duck, directed by Michael Grandage,
will be Ben Daniels as Gregers Werle, and the cast will also include
Paul Hilton, William Gaunt, Nicholas Le Prevost, Susan Brown, Peter
Eyre, Michelle Fairley and Sinead Matthews. The production opens on
13th December (previews from 8th) until 18th February.
Ronni Ancona, Stephen Beard, Stephen Boxer, Simon Gregor, David Killick,
Amy Lucas, John Marquez, Kris Marshall, Lyndsey Marshal, Carey Mulligan,
Gyuri Sarossy and Daniella Wilson will join Simon Russell Beale in
Richard Bean's adptation of The Hypochondriac at the
Almeida, directed by Lindsay Posner. It runs from 17th November (previews
from 10th) to 7th January.
At the King's Head Peter Bowles, Bryan Murray and Simon Hepworth
star in Joe and I by Laurie Slade from 15th November
(previews from 8th) to 18th December.
At the RSC, Declan Donellan's production of Great Expectations
will star Sian Phillips as Miss Haversham, along with Neve McIntosh,
Tobias Beer, Richard Bremner, Philip Cumbus, Gwendoline Christie,
Sophie Duval, Julius DSilva, Brian Doherty, Ruth Everett, Robert
Hastie, Emma Lowndes, Philip McGinley, Adam Newsome, Samuel Roukin,
Roger Sloman and Jem Wall.
Headlining the cast of the RSC's Canterbury Tales are
Paola Dionisotti as the Prioress and Claire Benedict as the Wife of
Bath. They will be joined by Nick Barber, Daon Broni, Dylan Charles,
Lisa Ellis, Christopher Godwin, Michael Hadley, Anna Hewson, Edward
Hughes, Michael Jibson, Michael Mateus, Barry McCarthy, Chu Omabala,
Ian Pirie, Joshua Richards, Christopher Saul, Katherine Tozer and
Darren Tunstall.
At the Barbican, the cast of Rufus Norris and David Greig's adpatation
of Hergé's Tintin in Tibet, Tintin, will
be Russell Tovey (Tintin), Sam Cox (Captain Haddock), Simon Trinder
(Snowy), Tom Wu (Tharkey), Kenon Mann (Chang), Jason Rowe (Thomson),
Nick Tigg (Thomson), Nicola Blackwell (Madam Castafiori), Duncan Wisbey
(Nestor), Graham Kent (Pundit), Mark Lockyer (Calculus and Grant Abbot),
Miltos Yerolemou (Yeti), Simon Lim (Ensemble), Michael Camp (Ensemble).
In the touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
which opens at the Sunderland Empire on 9th December before going
on to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bristol and Southampton,
Caractacus Potts will be played by Tim Flavin
Darius Danesh (Pop Idol and Pop Stars) takes over as Billy
Flynn in Chicago.
Nichola McAuliffe joins Woody Harrelson, Jenny Seagrove and Clare
Higgins in the cast of The Night Of The Iguana at the
Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue.
At the Gate in Notting Hill, the revival of Eugene O'Neill's The
Emperor Jones will star Paterson Joseph. The production, which
is directed by Thea Sharrock, runs from 21st November (previews from
16th) to 17th December.
Finally, in The Rubinstein Kiss, written and directed
by James Phillips, the cast will be Samantha Bond, Louisa Clein, Emily
Bruni and Martin Hutson, Will Keen and Gary Kemp. This world premiere
opens at the Hampstead Theatre on 23rd November (previews from 17th)
and runs until 17th December. The play deals with the story of Ethel
and Julius Rosenberg, the American husband and wife executed for spying
during the McCarthy era in the USA.

Dench at the National
Dame Judi Dench will be at the National Theatre on 3rd November to talk
about Scenes From My Life, a "photographic memoir"
which tells the story of her life through photographs. Cahired by John
Miller and followed by a book signing, tickets for the event, which
is in the Lyttelton Theatre at 6.00 pm, are £3.50 (£2.50

Tonight's the Night
to Tour
The Rod Stewart musical, Tonight's the Night, is to set off on
a national tour in 2006, opening on 6th February in Manchester and going
on to Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Leicester, Nottingham,
Bristol, Woking, Stoke on Trent, Plymouth, Southampton, Wolverhampton,
Ipswich, Birmingham, Sunderland, Oxford, Wimbledon and Liverpool. More
dates are to be announced later.
Lion King Extends
The Lion King (Lyceum Theatre) has extended its booking period
to 1st October, 2006.
