New
Lenkiewicz Play at Soho
Rebecca Lenkiewicz' new play Shoreditch Madonna will premiere
at the Soho Theatre where she was a Writer on Attachment, opening on
12th July (previews from 6th) and running until 6th August. Directed
by Sean Mathias, it is a "modern tale of love and loss set against
the underground art world of London's East End".
Lenkiewicz (see Philip Fisher's interview
with her) won a Fringe First with her first play Soho
- A Tale of Table Dancers and then, earlier this year, won the
Most Promising Playwright award from the Critics' Circle for Night
Season at the National.
In October the Soho will premiere Toby Whithouses latest play,
Blue Eyes and Heels, which will star The Office's Martin
Freeman. A play about the media, it will be directed by Jonathan Lloyd.
As You Like It
Casting Announced
The full casting has been announced for As You Like It at Wyndham's
Theatre, which opens on 21st June (previews from 3rd), booking to 3rd
September. Joining the already announced Sienna Miller (Celia), Helen
McCrory (Rosalind), Dominic West (Orlando) and Reece Shearsmith (Jacques),
will be Sean Hughes as Touchstone and Clive Rowe as Duke Senior. Also
in the cast are Andrew French, Denise Gough, Michael Howcroft, Rebecca
Jenkins, Sam Kenyon, David Killick, Lisa Lee Leslie, Nigel Richards,
Ben Turner and Andrew Woodall. David Lan directs.
Two
West End Outings for Moran
Nick Moran's playwriting debut, Telstar
- the Joe Meek Story, transfers to the New Ambassadors from
24th June (previews from 21st) to 10th September after a national tour.
Also in June, Moran will be onstage at the Criterion as John Ruskin
when Gregory Murphy's The Countess transfers there. It opens
on 7th June (previews from 2nd) and is booking to 17th September. The
cast also includes Alison Pargeter (Effie), Damian O'Hare (Millais),
Gerald Harper (Mr Ruskin), Jean Boht (Mrs Ruskin ), Linda Thorson (Lady
Elizabeth Eastlake), Chris Garwood, Edmund Kente, Deidra Morris.
Unexpected Man
to Tour
Yasmina Reza's The Unexpected Man goes on tour from 2nd May to
16th July, visiting Richmond, Leeds, Cambridge, Bath, Malvern, Darlington,
Westcliff on Sea, Brighton, Woking, Coventry and Bromley. A Theatre
Royal, Bath, production, it stars Peter Bowles and Sian Phillips.

The casting for the last three weeks of the revival of Eve Ensler's
The Vagina Monologues at Wyndham's Theatre has been announced:
- Mon 25 April - Sat 30 April: Alison Newman, Diane Parish and Jenny
Éclair.
- Mon 2 May - Sat 7 May: Rula Lenska, Heather Small and Jenny Éclair.
- Mon 9 May - Sat 14 May: Christine Hamilton, Heather Small and Jenny
Éclair.
