Festival Theatres Face
£175,000 Loss
Edinburgh's Festival Theatres Trust, which runs the King's and the Festival
Theatres, is facing a loss of £175,000 this year. The city council's
1996 Cultural Strategy Review suggested that the two theatres should
receive a joint subsidy in the region of £1m but this has never
happened, and the actual amount received last year was £488,000.
Palmer Onstage Again
Former EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer is to have her third stage
outing in less than twelve months when she appears in Tony Craze's Squint
at the Chelsea Theatre from 22nd September to 18th October.
Globe to Broadcast
Live
The Shakespeare's Globe production of Richard II is to be broadcast
live on 7th September, the first time television cameras have been allowed
in the theatre and, it is thought, the first time that a major London
production has ever been broadcast live. As always at the Globe, whether
it rains or shines, the performance, and therefore the broadcast, will
go ahead on digital channel BBC4.
Twelfth Night
Returns to the Globe
The Globe's celebratory 400th aniversary production of Twelfth Night,
starring Mark Rylance as Olivia (for which he won the 2003 Critics Circle
Award for Best Shakespearean Performance), returns to the theatre for
twelve performances from 2nd to 12th October, before setting off on
a US tour.
Changes
- After Mrs Rochester (Duke of York's) is now booking until
1st November
- Comedian Russ Abbott is to take over the part of Grandpa Potts in
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from 16th September.
