Dench to Return to the
West End
Dame Judi Dench is to return to the West End in a new production of
Coward's Hay Fever, directed by Sir Peter Hall. Peter Bowles
and Belinda Lang will co-star. Dench will play Judith Bliss. Her last
West End appearance was in 2002, also at the Haymarket, where she appeared
in David Hare's The Breath
of Life with Dame Maggie Smith.
The production will be at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in April of next
year but the exact dates have not yet been set.
Beale is Broadway Bound
Simon Russell Beale will take over from Tim Curry as King Arthur in
Eric Idle's Tony Award winning Spamalot on Broadway on 20th December.
New Footloose
Tour
The hit musical Footloose is to have another national tour next
year before returning to the West End. The tour begins at the new Wales
Millennium Centre in Cardiff, where it plays from 5th to 14th January,
and then goes on to:
- King's Theatre, Glasgow (16th - 21st January)
- The Mayflower, Southampton (23rd - 28th January)
- The Birmingham Alexandra (30th January - 4th February)
- Regent Theatre, Stoke (6th - 11th February)
- Manchester's Palace Theatre (13th - 18th February)
- Belfast's Grand Opera House (20th - 25th February)
- Bristol Hippodrome (27th February - 4th March)
- Edinburgh Playhouse (6th - 11th March)
- New Vic, Woking (13th - 18th March)
- Theatre Royal, Plymouth (20th - 25th March)
Casting has yet to be announced.
2006 Tour for Trainspotting
A new production of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting in the stage
adaptation by Harry Gibson is set to tour mostly Scottish venues in
the new year. A co-production between Mark Groucher Ltd and the Citizens
Theatre, Glasgow, it will play at the Citz for two weeks before going
on to Her Majesty's, Aberdeen (23td January), the King's, Edinburgh
(30th January) and the Sherman, Cardiff (6th February). Casting is yet
to be announced.
NoFit State Win International
Award
Cardiff-based NoFit State Circus show ImMortal2
has been announced as winners of the Theatre Award Category at the Tarrega
Festival, Spain. The show has also won the Tap Water Award and the Three
Weeks Editor's Choice Award at this year's Edinburgh Fringe, and
the company also won the 2004 Theatre in Wales Performance Award.
NoFit State Circus sold out all four performances of ImMortal2, prior
to arriving in Spain at the start of September. Over 400 programmers
from venues and festivals across Europe saw the production and the company
is receiving calls daily, enquiring about 2006/7 touring.
Producer Ali Williams said, This year has been an exciting time
for the company and its development. Now with the real potential of
international touring, we could become one of Wales most exported
cultural companies!
Dancing
Extends
Dancing in the Streets,
the Motown tribute show at the Cambridge Theatre, has extended its booking
period by seven weeks to 7th January, 2006.
