Summer Begins a Good Spring for Eldridge
This spring sees three David Eldridge productions opening in London and New York. On 13th April Southwark Playhouse will revive his Summer Begins (1996) and in the same month his adaptation of Festen opens in New York. In May his latest play Market Boy will open at the RNT Olivier.

New Hare Play to Open in New York
David Hare's new play The Vertical Hour, which will be directed by Sam Mendes, will open on Broadway in November, although no theatre has yet been announced. Dealing with the way Western society has changed since 9/11, it will star Hollywood actress Julianne Moore.

Most of Hare's plays have premiered in London and three of his most recent - Stuff Happens, The Permanent Way and his version of The House of Bernarda Alba - have opened at the National Theatre but Hare has issues with the theatre's scheduling which, he feels, limts a production's run. However both he and Mendes hope that, if the plays is successful in New York, it will transfer to the West End.

Frayn Revival at the Comedy
Michael Frayn's 1976 comedy Donkey's Years is to be revived in a new production at the Comedy Theatre from 9th May (previews from 27th April). The cast will feature Mark Addy, Samantha Bond, Jonathan Coy, James Dreyfus, David Haig, Edward Petherbridge and Michael Simkins, and the play will be directed by Jeremy Sams.

Enemies at the Almeida
The cast for the Almeida's production of Gorky's Enemies, in a new version by David Hare, has been announced. Sean Chapman, Jack Davenport, Amanda Drew, Stephen Noonon, Amanda Root and Jodie Whittaker will be directed by the theatre's artistic director Michael Attenborough. The production is designed by Simon Higlett, with lighting by Tim Mitchell and sound by Paul Arditti.

The production opens on 11th May (previews from 5th) and runs until 24th June.

Thriller – The Musical
There will be a one-off performance of a musical based on the music of Michael Jackson at London's Dominion Theatre on 27th August. Written by the author of Michael Jackson – The Visual Documentary and founder of the original Michael Jackson fan club, it features three characters, aided by Michael Jackson, who battle against demonic zombies who are trying to take over the world.

The show promises over a hundred performers, including a West End chorus line, a children's ballet, a gospel choir and special guests, but no performers or guests have yet been announced.

The producers hope that the show will then tour.

Show Boat Casting
In the cast for the short run of the musical Show Boat at the Royal Albert Hall (10th - 25th June) will be David Burt, Jenny Galloway, John Owen-Jones and Rebecca Thornhill.

ETT Cancels Hamlet Performances
English Touring Theatre has cancelled its performances of Hamlet (New Ambassadors) from 10th to 17th April. Performances will resume on 18th and continue until the advertisied last night, 22nd April.

The Producers Extends
The Producers (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) has extended to 6th January, 2007.
