Gate Brings Eh Joe
to London
Dublin's Gate Theatre is to bring its production of Beckett's Eh
Joe to the Duke of York's from 27th June to 15th July. There will
be two pwrfromances of the 30-minute play daily, at 7.00 and 8.30pm.
Originally written for television and broadcast by the BBC in 1966,
the play features a silent male figure and the voice of a woman who
torments him for thinking that he could ever forget her. In the original
TV production, Jack Macgowan played Joe and Sian Phillips the woman.
The Gate performances featured Michael Gambon as Joe and the voice
of Penelope Wilton, the woman whose affair with him drive her to suicide.
The Cast for the London run has not yet been announced. The production
is adapted for the stage and directed by Atom Egoyan.
Cabaret Back
in the West End
It has been confirmed, as we reported last
year, that Bill Kenwright will present Kander and Ebb's Cabaret
this autumn at the Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue. Directed by Rufus Norris,
it will begin previews on 22nd September and open on 10th October.
No casting or other details have been announced.
Dirty Dancing
Casting
The two leads for the West End production of Dirty Dancing at
the Aldwych in the autumn have been announced. Babe will be played by
recent RADA graduate Georgina Rich and Australian Josef Brown will play
Johnny. He originated the part in the Australian world premiere of the
production in Sydney in 2004.
Rich appeared in the revival of Joanna Murray-Smith's Honour
at Wyndham's earlier this year but it will be Brown's West End debut,
although he does have a wealth of experience in his native Australia
where he was a principal dancer with the Australian Ballet.
Dirty Dancing opens at the Aldwych on 24th October, following
previews from 28th September.
Rocky Horror Show
Back in London
The Rocky Horror Show, currently on a national tour, will return
to London for three weeks in July. It will run at the Playhouse from
3rd July and will then resume touring.
The show stars David Badella as Frank N Furter and Suzanne Shaw as
Janet.
Rock 'n' Roll
Moves
Tom Stoppard's latest play, Rock 'n' Roll, which plays at the
Royal Court from 3rd to 15th July as part of the theatre's fiftieth
anniversary season, will follow The Rocky Horror Show into the
Playhouse on 22nd July.
Directed by Trevor Nunn, the play stars Brian Cox, Sinead Cusack and
Rufus Sewell.
Extending
