Charman Wins Bargate
Award
Matt Charman has won the 2004 Verity Bargate Award for his first play
A Night at the Dogs. The prize, worth £3,500, includes
a production of the play and a writing residency at the Soho Theatre.
The Soho runs the Award which is in memory of its co-founder.
The judging panel included Kate Bassett, Gaby Chiappe, Jessica Dromgoole,
Peter Gill, Tanika Gupta, Kwame Kwei-Armah, Rob Ritchie and Paul Sirett.
Charman (25) is also business development manager of wesbite What's
Onstage.
Acorn Antiques
at the Haymarket
The stage musical version of Victoria Wood's Acorn Antiques,
featuring (it is expected) the original TV cast plus Sally Ann Triplett,
will run for sixteen weeks at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, starting
on 30th January.
British Emmy Success
British TV programmes took six out of seven awards at the 2004 Emmys.
BBC1's Waking The Dead won the Drama category, ITV's Henry
VIII the mini-series award, and Channel 4's The Illustrated Mum
the Children and Young People award.
