Python Onstage
- in French!
A stage version of Monty Python's Flying Circus has finally arrived
in London, but the show, running at the Riverside Studios until 19th
February, is in French, with English surtitles. Consisting of many of
the famous Python sketches, including The Lumberjack Song,
The Ministry of Silly Walks and The Dead Parrot, it has
been running in Paris for the last two years.
Another Python-based show, Spamalot, a stage musical
version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is currently in preview
at Broadway's Shubert Theater after a succesful try-out run in Chicago.
Written by Eric Idle, its official opening night is 17th March asmd
it is currently booking through to September.
Boulaye Musical to
Premiere at Hackney
Sun Dance, a new show written by singer Patti Boulaye and directed
by Dougie Squires, is to open at the Hackney Empire on 18th May (previews
from 13th) and will run until 25th June. Described as the progress of
an African woman through life from birth to death, it will feature a
cast of 36 singers, dancers and musicians.
It follows the Young Vic production of A Raisin in the Sun,
Lorraine Hansberry's 1959 Broadway success, when she became the only
African American to date to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award
for Best Play of the Year, which runs from 3rd to 7th May.
Poppins
and Brothers Extend
Both Mary Poppins and Blood Brothers have announced extensions
to their booking periods:
- Mary Poppins (Prince Edward) is now booking to 1st April,
2006
- Blood Brothers (Phoenix) has extended its period to 29th
Octber, 2005
