Christie Classic Confirmed The updated version of Christie's classic, which Elyot bases on the original novel rather than the 1943 stage version written by Christie herself, opens on 25th October (previews from 14th) and will be directed by Steven Pimlott, joint artistic director of Chichester Festival. Like the recent television productions of the Miss Marple novels, And Then There Were None is in some ways a re-invention of Agatha Christie for the 21st century. For the last four years no productions of plays based on her work have been allowed - except, of course, the long-running The Mousetrap - whilst the new And Then was developed. Saturday Night Tour The tour opens at Manchester Opera House on 16th September and goes on to Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Darlington, Liverpool, Cardiff, Milton Keyne, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Norwich, Nottingham, Brighton, Woking, Belfast, Glasgow and one other venue yet to be announced, finishing on 18th February.

No More Movies for
Connery? "I'm fed up with the idiots ... the ever-widening gap between people who know how to make movies and the people who green-light the movies," Connery told the paper. "I don't say they're all idiots. I'm just saying there's a lot of them that are very good at it [being idiots]. It would almost need a Mafia-like offer I couldn't refuse to do another movie." But even huge amounts of money - he is reputed to command as much as £10m - is not enough to atrract him. He turned down the part of Gandalf in Lord of the Rings because "I never understood it. I read the book. I read the script. I saw the movie. I still don't understand it." Musicals Casting Changes Also in August, on 29th, Don Gallagher replaces Conleth Hill as Roger De Bris and Stephen Matthews takes over from James Dreyfus as Carmen Ghia in The Producers (Theatre Royal Drury Lane). And also at the end of August Simon Callow will take over from Anthony Andrews as Count Fosco in The Woman in White. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
