Looking for the New Billy Elliott
There will be an open audition on Saturday 8 November at The Assembly Rooms, Fenkle Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, for Billy Elliot the Musical, registration at 8am.

Billy Elliot the Musical is to be directed by Stephen Daldry, written by Lee Hall and choreographed by Peter Darling - the team responsible for the film - with music written by Elton John. The producers, Working Title and Old Vic Productions in association with Tiger Aspect Pictures therefore need to find the new Billy Elliot.

They hope to make the World Premiere of the new show in Newcastle around August next year. Following this they want to take it to the West End Stage and are therefore looking for extremely talented boys between the ages of 11 and 14 to take the lead.

The search is on for boys who can dance and sing brilliantly. And, of course they have to be able to act! They producers know the talent is out there but that it's going to take some time to find the people required. At least three performers are needed to share the role of Billy for a run in the West End. They are also looking for boys to play Michael, Billy's best friend (11 to 14). He must be able to sing and dance - especially tap. All applicants will be looked at for both parts.

For the auditions you need to take comfortable clothes that you can move around in, a recent photograph of yourself, plenty to drink and lots of energy! Expect to dance then if lucky, sing. They can only guarantee to see the first 350 boys so arrive early!

But this is only the beginning! More auditions will take place throughout the winter in the North East, details to be announced at a later date.

RSC/Live Co-Production Opens This Week
Keepers of the Flame, the co-production between the Royal Shakespeare Company and Newcastle's Live Theatre will open this week at Live's theatre, just off the quayside. Described as "a nightmarish tale of love, power, treason and secret history", Sean O'Brien's play is directed by Max Roberts and runs until 30th November as part of the RSC's Newcastle season.
