The site for the Customs House production of The Tempest

Tempest creative team confirmed

The creative team for the Customs House site-specific production of Shakespeare's The Tempest in North Marine Park, South Shields, in August, has been confirmed. Peter Lathan, who, as well as being the BTG editor is also artistic director of co-producers KG Productions, will direct and he is joined by Dora Frankel as choreographer and Paul Chambers as musical director.

Dora Frankel was trained at the Rambert School and produced her first professional work for their workshop. She has worked extensively in the UK, especially the NE, and in Sweden and Finland. Bass player Paul Chambers is widely experienced and in-demand session musician who has taught at all levels of education. They will work with a group of young people who will play the "spirits of the isle", creating the magical effects and the music which will permeate the whole production.

The Tempest runs on 27th, 28th and 29th August. The cast of eleven NE professional actors will be announced this week.

Rehearsed readings at Live

On Thursday at 8pm in the Studio, Live Theatre will present rehearsed readings of two new short plays by local writers: Dial-A-Mate by by Paddy Campbell and Islanders by Dick Curran. The first is a dark comedy in which the beleagured Norman copes with his newly bought "friend" Jackie and Islanders, set on a bird reserve on The Farne Islands, follows the interwoven relationship between Peter, Nicola and Ellen.

Dick Curran is a past winner of the Octagon Stage Play Prize.
