New Season at the Gate

Notting Hill's Gate Theatre has announced new productions from June through to December: three World Premieres and a summer festival of four collaborations throughout London.

From 16th June (previews from 10th) to 10th July the theatre, in association with Headlong, will present Anna Ledwich’s new staging of Wedekind’s Lulu. Sinead Matthews (Eigengrau, Our Class, The Wild Duck) will take the role of Lulu.

2nd September (previews from 25th August) sees the world premiere of Natalie Abrahami's adaptation of Lorrie Moore's short story How to Be an Other Woman in which the heroine will be played by four women, each reflecting the multiple facets of her character.

Joseph K by Tom Basden, based on Franz Kafka’s The Trial, runs from 17th November (previews from 11th) to 18th December. It will be directed by Associate Director Lyndsey Turner (Nocturnal) who is currently directing Laura Wade’s Posh at the Royal Court.

The Gate Outdoors season consists of:

Etiquette
By Ant Hampton and Silvia Mercuriali
A Rotozaza production
19 - 30 July 2010 at Gail’s Café, 138 Portobello Rd, London W11 2DZ
An intimate experience for two people in a public space.
There is no one watching – other people in the café have no idea what is happening. Instructions delivered via headphones tell you what to say to each other, or to use one of the objects positioned on your table.

Susurrus
Written and directed by David Leddy
In association with Opera Holland Park
19 July - 1 August 201 at Holland Park Gardens, Stable Yard, Holland Park, London W8 6LU
A play without actors, without a stage and with only one person in the audience.
Part radio play, part avant-garde sonic art, part lesson in bird dissection and part stroll in the park.
The listener hears snippets about opera, memorial benches and botany which fit together into a mournful and poignant story of love and loss which is a reinterpretation of A Midsummer Night's Dream with a contemporary edge

Domini Públic
By Roger Bernat
In association with the National Theatre
20 - 25 July 2010 in the Square Outside the National Theatre (various times)
A group of people gather in a public space making simple responses to seemingly innocent questions received over their headphones. But what starts off looking like a 3D survey brought to life transforms into a gripping narrative with a cast of over a hundred.

The Gate Theatre and Slung Low present
The Knowledge Emporium
30 July - 1 August 2010
Somewhere in Notting Hill : Friday 7pm, Sat and Sun 5pm
Part of The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s IN TRANSIT Festival
A walk-about journey from the Gate Theatre through the streets of Notting Hill to discover and share the hidden stories contained within the community, ending up at a sweet shop like no other, The Knowledge Emporium.
No money is needed here for your penny chews and humbugs, just a little piece of your knowledge to add to the ‘Big Book of Everything That We Know’.
