National Skills Academy Approved The government has given its approval to the building of a £15m National Skills Academy for the Performing Arts. The Academy, which will train train technicians, was proposed by Creative & Cultural Skills to counter the expected shortful in trained theatre and musical technicians. The CCS estimates that the industry will need 30,000 new technicians over the next decade. The NSA is seeking to create a specialist training network for people working in backstage and technical live music and theatre. It is a nationwide project that will be delivered across the UK in a series of partnership hubs. The NSA will operate throughout the country, harnessing the skills, staff, buildings and facilities of the music and theatre sectors. It is open to anyone seeking to join or already working backstage or offstage and training courses will take place in theatre and music venues around the country. Our industry professionals will devise and develop training courses, using the latest equipment from industry leaders. The new Academy is expected to be based in a state-of-the-art building in Thurrock.
