The NTS in Edinburgh

NTS and EIF 2008 logos

The National Theatre of Scotland returns to the Edinburgh International Festival, following previous successes with Realism and The Bacchae. 365 is a new work by David Harrower, directed by Vicky Featherstone, about fragmented lives and young people in the care system today. 365 receives it world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival on 22nd August, followed by a run in London. The play previews at Eden Court, Inverness.

365 is at Eden Court from 13th to 15th August, at the Edinburgh International Festival at The Edinburgh Playhouse from 22nd to 25th August, at The Lyric Hammersmith, London from 9th to 27th September. 365 is the National Theatre of Scotland's third co-production with the Edinburgh International Festival.

365, with text by David Harrower, is directed by Vicky Featherstone, designed by Georgia McGuinness, movement directed by Steven Hoggett, lighting designed by Colin Grenfell, sound designed by Adrienne Quartly and with a song by Paul Buchanan.

The cast ia Ben Allan, Ryan Fletcher, Scott Fletcher, Simone James, Siu Hun Li, Laura McMonagle, Helen Mallon, Ashley Smith, Rebecca Smith, Gayle Telfer Stevens, Owen Whitelaw, John Paul McCue, Marlene Madenge and Julie Wilson Nimmo.

There are over 70,000 children in care in Britain today. On average they pass through eleven stages of care. In their late teens they have to make the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood, from care to independence. A Practice Flat is one of the state's mechanisms to introduce these children gently to the adult world. 365 is set in the transitory and surreal world of this Practice Flat.

It follows the lives of a group of young people who, with their humour, imagination, wit and raw courage, pass through the flat and take their first faltering steps towards adulthood and the outside world.

365 has been created especially for the Edinburgh International Festival by Vicky Featherstone, with text by David Harrower, one of Scotland's leading playwrights.

NTS Workshop and TEAM logos

The National Theatre of Scotland Workshop joins forces with the Team (USA) to present the world premiere of Architecting at the Traverse as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 31st July to 24th August at Traverse 2 with a press performance on Friday 1st August at 1.30pm.

Architecting, written by the TEAM in collaboration with Davey Anderson, Dave Polato, Lucy Kendrick Smith and Nathan Wright with a cast consisting of Jessica Almasy, Frank Boyd, Jill Frutkin, Libby King, Jake Margolin, and Kristen Sieh, is directed by Rachel Chavkin, with associate direction by Davey Anderson, scenic and costume design by Nick Vaughan, lighting design by Jake Heinrichs, sound design by Matt Hubbs and video design by Brian Scott.

The TEAM returns to the Fringe with Architecting, an American saga that weaves through America's past and future to create a requiem for modern America. Architecting is a musical, multi-media time-bending epic peopled with Scarlett O'Hara pageant contests and anarchistic architects. It rockets from the American Civil War and the subsequent Reconstruction to a desolate bar in post-Katrina New Orleans where literary legend Margaret Mitchell and presidential grandchild historian Henry Adams watch the country change under their feet.

The TEAM is the Theatre of the Emerging American Moment. It is a New York City-based theatre company dedicated to dissecting and celebrating the experience of living in America today. The Company devises plays by examining a wealth of material, ranging from existing texts (fiction, theory, drama, etc.) to images taken from visual art and film, and then combining that research with original writing and staging. The TEAM is a regular contributor to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2006 the TEAM took the festival by storm with Particularly in the Heartland, Winner of a Fringe First Award and previously in 2005, with another Fringe First Winner Give Up! Start Over! (In the darkest of times I look to Richard Nixon for hope).

Writer, Director and Composer Davey Anderson, previously a Director in Residence at the National Theatre of Scotland, has been collaborating with the TEAM over the last year to contribute to the creation of this piece of work.

Each year the National Theatre of Scotland: New Work selects projects in development that are particularly inspiring, for a National Theatre of Scotland Workshop Production, a fully-realised production by emergent artists or companies. Previous Workshop productions include Falling, a co-production with Angus company Poorboy, Rupture, written and directed by Davey Anderson and last year's Festival hit, Venus as a Boy.
