NTS Brings The Wicker Man to the Stage

Cult movie classic The Wicker Man is to be brought to the stage by the National Theatre of Scotland in the form of a new peice of music theatre.

Written by Greg Hemphill and Donald McLeary and directed by Vicky Featherstone, An Appointment with The Wicker Man will tour in February and March 2012.

On a distant and remote Scottish island, the Loch Parry Theatre Players mount a production of The Wicker Man. When their lead actor goes missing in mysterious circumstances, they call on the services of a television cop from the mainland to step in and save their production...

An Appointment with The Wicker Man is billed as "an all-singing-and-dancing love letter to a unique and timeless cult masterpiece" and it will tour to His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (21 to 25 February 2012), Theatre Royal Glasgow (28 February to 3 March 2012), Eden Court, Inverness (6 to 10 March 2012) and The Alhambra, Dunfermline (21 to 24 March 2012).

In other NTS news:

  • The people of Falkirk share their tales of social dancing in the lead up to a large-scale community show in a surprise location in Falkirk, in March 2012. Reasons to Dance is presented in partnership with Falkirk Community Trust and sponsored by ScottishPower.
  • The National Theatre of Scotland’s New Directors and Emerging Artists, supported by Bank of Scotland, will share their experiences in Emerge, a new series of events showcasing their work in progress. The first Emerge event will take place on 26 January 2012 at the Citizens Theatre Circle Studio.
  • Bothy boxes are appearing in selected bothies across Scotland, planted by a team of artists and inviting personal responses from the public. This gathering of stories forms part of The Bothy Project and will be available online at www.bothy-box.co.uk.

Two NTS shows will tour internationally in 2012: Long Gone Lonesome, written by Duncan McLean and directed by Vicky Featherstone, featuring the Lone Star Swing Band, will visit Texas, Indiana, Chicago, Pennsylvania and Florida in January and February 2012 and Beautiful Burnout by Bryony Lavery, directed by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett and co-produced with Frantic Assembly, travels to Australia and New Zealand, visiting Sydney, Perth and Wellington from January to March.
