West End Comedy Poster Banned Viacom, one of the largest proprietors of billboard and poster sites in the UK, have stunned the Producers of a West End comedy show by refusing to allow them to hire Viacom sites because the title of the show includes the word 'Niggas'. Reginald D Hunter's show, Pride And Prejudice And Niggas, is due to open at the newly refurbished Arts Theatre, London for a three week run in December after winning the coveted Writer's Guild Award for Comedy Writing at this year's Edinburgh Festival. However, Viacom, in an overt act of censorship, have deemed the title of the show to be too offensive for public tastes and have stated that they will only allow posters for the show to be displayed at their sites if the word 'Niggas' is removed from the title. The company's decision to ban the poster could severely affect Hunter's critically acclaimed show when it opens in the West End on the 4th December. Interestingly, Pride And Prejudice And Niggas is a show in which Hunter observes - and tries to make sense of - the way contemporary society deals with such emotive subjects as sexism, homophobia and racism. It has also proven to be an unusually difficult task for Producer Mick Perrin to book a regional tour for the show with several venues refusing to programme Pride And Prejudice And Niggas because of its allegedly incendiary title. Pride And Prejudice And Niggas was a sell-out show during the Edinburgh Festival and was seen by thousands of people receiving acclaim from audiences and critics alike. It is the fourth show from black American comedian, Reginald D Hunter, who has also been twice nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award. Philip Fisher interviewed Reginald D Hunter for the Jewish Chronicle over alleged anti-Semitism in this Edinburgh act.
