New Artistic Directors at Paines Plough

The Board of Paines Plough has announced that George Perrin and James Grieve will succeed Roxana Silbert as joint Artistic Directors of Paines Plough. They will take up the post in February 2010 when they will announce plans for the company’s first season.

George Perrin and James Grieve are currently Artistic Directors of nabokov, a new writing company they formed in 2001 to produce and tour new plays that respond to contemporary agendas, trends and events. Credits include the world premieres of Mike Bartlett’s Artefacts at The Bush and Edmund White's Terre Haute at Trafalgar Studios, both of which toured nationally before transferring to New York. 2nd May 1997 by Jack Thorne - a co-production with The Bush - is currently on tour.

George and James said, "We are thrilled to be have been appointed joint Artistic Directors of Paines Plough. We are looking forward to the opportunity to build on the company's illustrious 35 year history and the incredible achievements of Roxana Silbert by continuing to present the highest quality work to the largest number of people across the country and internationally, cementing Paines Plough's reputation as the UK's national theatre of new plays.

Chair of the Paines Plough board, David Edwards, said, "The Board is absolutely delighted with the appointment of James Grieve and George Perrin as joint Artistic Directors. James and George have already established themselves as exceptionally talented directors, and have demonstrated in their work with writers that they share the core values of Paines Plough. Under their artistic leadership we are confident that Paines Plough is entering another exciting phase.”

They will join Executive Producer Anneliese Davidsen.

Paines Plough is an award-winning and internationally renowned touring theatre company with an outstanding reputation for developing new writers, many of whom have become established names in UK theatre. The company’s credits include most recently the award winning Orphans by Dennis Kelly currently playing a sell-out run at Soho theatre, Roaring Trade by Steve Thompson, and Dallas Sweetman by Sebastian Barry.
