Travelling Light
By Nicholas Wright

Antony Sher stars as Jacob with Mark Extance, Colin Haigh, Paul Jesson,
Sue Kelvin, Abigail McKern, Damien Molony (as Motl), Lauren O'Neil
(as Anna), Karl Theobald and Alexis Zegerman.
In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl
Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father's
cinematograph. Bankrolled by Jacob, the ebullient local timber merchant,
and inspired by Anna, the girl sent to help him make moving pictures
of their villeage, he stumbles on a revolutionary way of story-telling.
Forty years on, Motl - now a famed American film director - looks
back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.

Moon on a Rainbow Shawl
By Errol John
Cottesloe Theatre
Directed by Michael Buffong, with designs by Soutra Gilmour
For the teeming populace of Old Mack's cacophonous yard in Port of
Spain, Trinidad, it's a cheek by jowl existence lived out on a sweltering
public stage. Snatches of calypso compete with hymn tunes, drums and
street cries as neighbours drink, brawl, pass judgment, make love,
look out for each other and crave a better life. But Ephraim is no
dreamer and nothing, not even the seductive Rosa, is going to stop
him escaping his dead-end job for a fresh start in England.
Opening 12th March (previews on 9th & 10th), playing until 28th

events have reflected and influenced multicultural policies, freedom
