RSC Expands London Season The RSC is to transfer three of its highly acclaimed Spanish Golden Age plays into The Playhouse theatre in London as well as two new plays into Soho Theatre in the New Year.
These will join the season already underway at the Albery theatre, giving audiences the choice of three very different venues performing very different RSC productions in the capital. The Dog in the Manger by Lope de Vega, The House of Desires by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz and Pedro the Great Pretender by Cervantes are the three plays from the RSCs Spanish Golden Age season which will play in weekly repertoire for ten weeks at The Playhouse from January to March next year with the original ensemble cast.
The Season, led by RSC Associate Director Laurence Boswell, played to critical acclaim in the Swan theatre, Stratford upon Avon, in Newcastle and recently in Madrid at the Festival de Otono.
Due to the ongoing success of the RSCs £5 ticket scheme for 16-25 year olds at the Albery, this scheme will be extended to young attenders at The Playhouse for all three RSC productions.
Soho Theatre plays host to two new plays which premiered during the RSCs inaugural New Work Festival in October; Midwinter by Zinnie Harris and Poor Beck by Joanna Laurens.
These will play in repertoire for three weeks from 2nd March along with Nowhere to Belong: Tales of an Extravagant Stranger; the Testimony written and performed by journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. These will be joined by a programme of workshops and readings.
The RSCs season of four Tragedies continues at the Albery theatre until April, ending with the transfer from Stratford of Euripides Hecuba which performs there until May. Further repertoire details/dates will be announced shortly and will be available on www.rsc.org.uk in the New Year. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
