RSC Cancels First Film Shows

The Royal Shakespeare Company has had to cancel the first two screenings that form part of its ‘Shakespeare on Film’ open air film festival.

Shakespeare In Love was due to be shown at the town’s Recreation Ground on Saturday 11th August, and Throne of Blood on Sunday 12th August, both at 9pm. However, owing to the recent flooding, it is currently difficult to predict whether the Recreation Ground will be sufficiently dry for these viewings to go ahead, and the RSC has therefore made the decision to cancel them.

The other four films in the festival are still scheduled to go ahead as planned, the first now being Kenneth Branagh’s Love’s Labour’s Lost on Saturday 18 August, 9pm.

Rachael Barber, RSC Outdoor Programmes Co-ordinator, said, “Obviously we’re disappointed that we’ve had to cancel the first two films in the festival. We’re hopeful that by mid-August the weather will have improved, and are working closely with Stratford District Council to monitor the situation."
