Ludo Keston

York CEO to be RSC General Manager

Ludo Keston, Chief Executive of York Theatre Royal since September 2001, will be stepping down in December 2004 to take up the new post of General Manager at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Ludo's newly created post at the RSC will oversee theatre operations in both Stratford and London. The General Manager will be a member of the senior management team playing a key role in the RSC's £100m redevelopment of its Stratford theatres.

RSC Executive Director, Vikki Heywood, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Ludo back to the RSC. He has an impressive and relevant track record and joins as a key member of the senior management team at the RSC. His new role is a crucial one in transforming our operations in both Stratford and London and his appointment completes the RSC’s new senior management team.”

Ludo took up his appointment in York with a clear public commitment to develop opportunities for young people at the theatre, diversify the range of productions and secure long term financial stability. The last three years have seen a wealth of new touring companies visiting the City, the opening of The Studio, the establishment of a youth theatre for 250 young people each week and turnover at the theatre increase by more than 50%.

Prior to his arrival in York, during a career of more than 25 years, Ludo’s experience includes work as a commercial producer in the West End, work at the New Vic Theatre, Staffordshire, with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Manchester Royal Exchange, and The National Theatre.
