Lapotaire Returns to the RSC RSC Honorary Associate Artist, Jane Lapotaire returns to the Royal Shakespeare Company during the Complete Works Festival as she joins RSC company members, Ariyon Bakare, Rob Carroll, David Fielder and Patrick Romer for a two week rehearsal period which will culminate in a work-in-progress adaptation of the Shakespeare poem The Rape of Lucrece in the Swan Theatre in Stratford on 10th September 2006 at 3pm. This is the RSCs first public performance of the poem.
Janes many roles for the RSC have included the title role in Piaf in Stratford, Newcastle, London and New York (1979-80), Gertrude in Hamlet (1992-93), Mrs Alving in Ibsens Ghosts (1993-94) and Queen Katherine in Gregory Dorans highly acclaimed Henry VIII in the Swan in 1998. Her book, Time Out of Mind, is an account of her survival and recovery from a brain injury in 2000.
Following his recent bunraku puppet adaptation of Shakespeares poem Venus and Adonis, Chief Associate Director, Gregory Doran turns his attentions to its darker companion piece, the tragic narrative poemThe Rape of Lucrece. He said, "Its wonderful to welcome Jane back to the company after her forced absence from the stage. She is a terrific actress, and its a joy to work with her again. She joins many other well known RSC alumni in returning to Stratford to help celebrate the ongoing Complete Works Festival with this rarely seen adaptation." Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
