A composite of various portraits of Shakespeare

A Mini-Complete Works Festival

Some of the first performers appearing at The Dell will include over 2300 schoolchildren from Warwickshire and nearby Sandwell, who over the course of nine days in June and July, will present their own Mini Complete Works Festival.

Part of an ongoing project between Warwickshire County Council’s Arts Zone, Sandwell Borough Council and the RSC, The Mini Complete Works Festival will take place between 26th and 30th June, and the 4th - 5th and 10th - 11th July. The children, all aged between five and 17, have been working on their bite-sized productions for over three months, following an initial stimulus day for teachers at the RSC earlier in the year.

Each production will last for approximately 15 minutes with five productions programmed for the morning session (10am onwards) and five during the afternoon (12pm onwards) of each day.

Fiona Ingram, Head of Education Programmes at RSC, said, “The Complete Works Festival is a celebration of the interpretation of Shakespeare world-wide and to engage young people in this way and heighten their connection to and appreciation of Shakespeare is one of the aspirations of the RSC. Once the students have engaged with the language they create a performance that reflects what the play means to them so the Mini Complete Works is likely to be as illuminating as it is entertaining.”
