Hall Returns to the RSC Sir Peter Hall sreturn to the Royal Shakespeare Company on 13th September with his first UK production of Measure for Measure. Part of the RSCs year-long Complete Works Festival, the production is his first at the RSC in over ten years, since directing Julius Caesar there in 1995.
Peter Halls involvement in the Complete Works Festival is particularly significant given his role in creating the modern day RSC. His theatre career began in 1955 when, as artistic director for the Arts Theatre, he directed the English language world premiere of Becketts Waiting for Godot. In 1960 he created the modern day RSC and remained with the company as artistic director for the next ten years. During his time with the RSC it quickly became one of the worlds most influential theatre companies.
Exploring the themes of lust, corruption and secret identity, Peter Halls production of Measure for Measure opened in June at Theatre Royal Bath and now comes to Stratfords Courtyard Theatre for six performances between 13th and 16th September. The eighteen-strong cast also includes James Laurenson as Duke Vincentio; Richard Dormer as Angelo; Andrea Riseborough as Isabella; Annette Badland as Mistress Overdone; Barry Stanton as Escalus; Michael Mears as Lucio and Teddy Kempner as Pompey. The cast also includes: Edward Bennett (Elbow), Paul Bentall (Provost), Peter Cadden (Varrius), Andrew Coppin (Officer), Robert Gill (Angelos servant), Malcolm Ridley (Friar Thomas, Froth, Barnardine), Simon Thorp (Justice, Abhorson, Friar Peter), Susie Trayling (Juliet), Ben Turner (Claudio) and Pauline Turner (Francesca). Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
