All Aboard for the Shakespeare Special! The RSC and Chiltern Railways have teamed up for a series of special late night trains to help patrons travel home after seeing a production in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Chiltern Railways runs a regular service from London Marylebone to Stratford-upon-Avon and now six special trains will run from Stratford-upon-Avon to London Marylebone, via Leamington Spa, Banbury, Bicester North and Haddenham and Thame Parkway and High Wycombe, from May to October.
These trains can be used by everyone, but it is hoped that RSC patrons from any of these destinations and want to travel back after the show will find them especially useful as they will be departing from Stratford station at 2320.
RSC Executive Director Vikki Heywood said, We are delighted to be working with Chiltern Railways on giving our patrons more ways to travel to and from our theatre. We understand the problems they can have with public transport in the evenings and this is one small step towards helping our patrons and improving their whole experience of visiting us in our Stratford-upon-Avon home.
Kirsteen Robertson, Head of Marketing and PR at Chiltern Railways said, We have been trying to find a way to give theatre-goers the late night service they need for some time, so we are excited to be working with the RSC and Network Rail on this. These new services will give more people the opportunity to see an evening performance in Stratford-upon-Avon and go there and back by train. The Shakespeare Specials will operate on Saturdays 30th May, 27th June, 11th July, 8th August, 19th September and 3rd October. As You Like It, The Winters Tale, Julius Caesar and the new Russian play The Drunks play in repertoire on these dates.
Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
