Nicky Henson as Toby Belch

Clive Wood (L) & Nicky Henson (above)

RSC: Wood Replaces Henson

Nicky Henson, who last week opened in the RSC’s production of Twelfth Night as Sir Toby Belch, has had to leave the production due to ill-health.

His part has been re-cast, and Clive Wood has now begun rehearsals for the role.

The part of Sir Toby Belch is currently being performed by the understudy, Christopher Robert.

Wood’s many previous roles for the RSC include Orsino in Twelfth Night (1994/5), York in the 2000 Henry VI tetrology, as well as Macduff in Macbeth, Claudius in Hamlet and the title role in Pilate in the 2004/5 Tragedies season in Stratford, Newcastle and London.

Clive Wood’s first performance as Sir Toby Belch will be on Tuesday 24 May at 7.30pm.

Twelfth Night, the second in the company’s season of Shakespeare’s comedies, is directed by the RSC’s Artistic Director, Michael Boyd and runs in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford–upon-Avon until November.
