Celebrating Shakespeare's Birthday

As part of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations, the Royal Shakespeare Company will host four events in the birthday marquee in the Centenary Gardens on Southern Lane on Sunday 27th April.

The events are:

1-1.45pm
Bond Meets The Bard
Come and discover what the iconic James Bond series of films have in common with recent RSC productions.

Stage and screen actors, Alan Cumming (Boris Grishenko in GoldenEye) and Julian Glover (Aristotle Kristatos, in For Your Eyes Only) consider what it takes to be play the archetypal Bond villain, and the similarities between these characters and Shakespeare’s ‘baddies’.

2.15-3pm
Table Talk
A chance to listen and watch as actors work with director, Conall Morrison, through the early stages of their first encounter with a Shakespearean text. Conall is directing this season’s production of The Taming of the Shrew in The Courtyard Theatre.

3.30-4.15pm
Shakespeare and Me
Actress Juliet Stevenson reflects on her career and relationship with Shakespeare.

4.45-5.30pm
Getting Intimate with Strangers
RSC actresses Penny Downie and Alexandra Gilbreath reveal what draws them to particular characters from the Shakespeare canon, offering insights about how they portray these characters as people we recognise.
