A young people's music theatre presentation

A Really Useful Summer School

The West End Summer School is a week-long theatre skills workshop for 8 to 21- year-olds, led by top industry professionals and existing West End stars. The course culminates in the chance to perform live on stage at the Her Majesty’s Theatre, home to Phantom of the Opera and one of the capital's most celebrated venues, in front of an invited audience of family, friends and talent scouts.

Her Majesty’s Theatre is part of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group, who have given the Summer School organisers every encouragement, as well as providing the jewel in their theatrical crown for the end-of-course show.

Never before will so much raw talent have been assembled in the heart of Theatreland, literally yards from where London's greatest productions are playing nightly to packed houses. They'll have the opportunity to experience first-hand what awaits the professional actor in the 21st century.

"It'll be a challenge, but an exciting one, and a lot of fun too," explains Mark Puddle of West End Stage, the brains behind the venture. "Workshops will be professionally structured and organised to bring out the best in our young performers, so we're not just offering a glorified child-minding service during the school holidays. We've managed to secure the services of a number very special guest lecturers too, some of whom are actually in the current casts of major shows such as Chicago and The Producers."

The 6-day course will concentrate on teaching the skills needed by actors, singers and dancers to build their confidence in stagecraft and hone that rare 'star quality' which great performers possess.

The West End Summer School will also be an opportunity to make new friends with similar interests, and spend a week in the most exciting part of the most exciting city in Europe. Accommodation will be available for out-of-towners, and there's a special emphasis on safety and security to put parents' minds 100% at rest. The children and teenagers taking part will be carefully grouped according to age and experience, while all instructors and directors have been fully CBR police-checked.
