Dateline: 1st October, 2002 Shakespeare 4 Kidz Announces New Structure
Shakespeare 4 Kidz are pleased to announce the completion of the corporate restructuring of the former Shakespeare 4 Kidz Group of Companies. A new company Shakespeare 4 Kidz (UK) Ltd has purchased the assets and existing businesses of the former Shakespeare 4 Kidz Group of Companies, and will manage all licensing and franchising arrangements of its Intellectual Property worldwide. The company has also signed a new licence agreement with the writers and creators of the Shakespeare 4 Kidz Music Theatre Shakespeare concept - Julian Chenery & Matt Gimblett - granting worldwide exploitation rights to their work. As part of the deal, the former holding company Shakespeare 4 Kidz Ltd, along with 4 Kidz Ltd (Shakespeare 4 Kidz Publishing), Education 4 Kidz Ltd (Shakespeare 4 Kidz Education) and Shakespeare 4 Kidz Theatre Company Ltd were placed into voluntary liquidation. Advisers to the deal include lawyers Davenport Lyons and Collins Benson Goldhill; accountants/liquidators Kingston Smith; and bankers RBS NatWest. Tony Sutton, Chairman of Shakespeare 4 Kidz (UK) Ltd said "This deal has created a more streamlined commercially viable organisation which is better placed to take advantage of the many opportunities before us. "The former arrangement of the Shakespeare 4 Kidz Group became too inflexible to operate efficiently; this new streamlined structure ensures we concentrate on the core business of exploiting our Intellectual Property. "Unlike other arts organisations which operate under government subsidy, we have been more aware of the difficult recent global economic trading conditions, and we felt it important to strengthen our financial position to protect our customers, suppliers and shareholders." Shakespeare 4 Kidz (UK) Ltd will continue to operate the UK Creative Education Programme and will license the schemes in other countries. Shakespeare 4 Kidz Education is shortly to be working with the British Council in Italy, and the company is in discussions with various parties to bring its Education Programme to the USA, Canada and Mexico. Also in America, the company is working closely with internet educationalists on the design of a new "cyber-curriculum" for Shakespeare. UK Theatre Production will be licensed to outside producers under an annually renewable licence. The current Shakespeare 4 Kidz Theatre Company tour of Shakespeare 4 Kidz A Midsummer Night's Dream with Shakespeare 4 Kidz Macbeth is licensed to Julian Chenery and Shows 4 Kidz Ltd, and operated by them on behalf of The Shakespeare 4 Kidz Theatre Company. The company is also in discussions to present a major tour of Shakespeare 4 Kidz shows in America and Canada. Various media versions of the Music Theatre Shakespeare shows and the Theatre-based Set Scene Seminars from Shakespeare 4 Kidz Education are also currently near completion. Shakespeare 4 Kidz also continues to work closely with the proposed Shakespeare's World Theme Park developments in Stratford-upon-Avon and in Pennsylvania USA. Julian Chenery, founder and Creative Director of the Shakespeare 4 Kidz concept, said "Shakespeare 4 Kidz remains THE National Shakespeare Company for Children and Young People in the UK. Throughout the country more young people than ever before are learning about Shakespeare in an easy and accessible way because of the work of Shakespeare 4 Kidz.
