Julian Chenery

S4K Boss Is Encore Producer of the Year

Shakespeare 4 Kidz founder Julian Chenery has topped the poll as Producer of the Year in theatre industry magazine Encore's 2004 Theatre Awards.

The Bob England Trophy for Best Producer, sponsored by Marshall Amplification, is awarded at the Encore Theatre Awards each May. This year's ceremony takes place at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon on 11th May.

Commenting on his success Julian Chenery says, "I am incredibly flattered to think that so many of my peers within the business - the readers of Encore Magazine - have chosen to vote for me in the Producer of the Year category. Not only is this a recognition of the fantastic work that the Shakespeare 4 Kidz team delivers in theatres all over the country, and a tribute to the hard work of our producers, creatives, technicians, and administration team that keep it all going; but also an acknowledgement of the growing success of children's arts at every level within the UK."

Chenery’s productions of Shakespeare 4 Kidz Macbeth and Shakespeare 4 Kidz The Tempest for the Shakespeare 4 Kidz Theatre Company are currently playing in London’s West End as part of an eight-month UK tour.

The 2004 Encore award is shared with joint winner Brain Hallard (Rocking on Heaven's Door). The winner of the 2003 award was the renowned pantomime, musical and play producer Paul Elliot.

Encore is a monthly magazine for the theatre professional, launched in June 1991 by its editor and proprietor Peter G Foot. It is now recognised by the industry as the leading publication that links the show producer and the venue manager. Besides providing that vital link, Encore has been presenting its prestigious annual theatre awards since 1995, honouring various integral sectors of the industry.
