South Bank Show Breakthrough Award

The nominees for this year's South Bank Show Breakthrough Award have been announced. They include:

Andrew Kennedy for Opera
(played the role of Ferrando in Glyndebourne on Tour’s production of Cosi Fan Tutti)

Connie Fisher for Theatre
(currently in the role of Maria in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium)

Rafi Gavron for Film
(debut in Anthony Minghella’s Breaking and Entering)

David Oyelowo for TV Drama
(lead in BBC2’s Shoot The Messenger)

Awards host Melvyn Bragg said, "The awards go to British artists across the spectrum who have achieved great things during the year. This award brings to a wide public the best of new young talent in the country."

The winner will be chosen by a public vote organised through The Times, to be announced on the day of the awards.

The awards will be transmitted on Sunday 28th January 2007 on ITV1. The full list of nominations for all ten main categories plus the Arts Council England - decibel award will be announced in early January.
