Dateline: 30th September, 2008 News from the South East - October 2008
Chichester Festival Theatre is coming to the end of yet another successful summer season, concluding with the world premiere of Martin Shermans play Aristo, now playing until 11th October. Robert Lindsay plays tycoon Aristotle Onassis with Diana Quick as Jackie Kennedy. Aristo is directed by Nancy Meckler, Artistic Director of Shared Experience. The Marketing Department are asking audience members to share their special highlights of the season, and are also on the lookout for Community Critics and Family Reviewers for the upcoming Autumn Season to join the press nights and be a journalist for the evening.. Apply by sending in a 250 word review and a photo to marketing@cft.org.uk The new Education and Rehearsal Centre is nearing completion, and theatre access via Broyle Road has now reopened one way only, exiting from the Northgate car park. Charles Collingwood from Ambridge will be appearing in An Evening with Charles Collingwood as a fundraiser for the centre, which will be a home for the Youth Theatre, and the 20,000 young people who work with the theatres Learning and Participation team. Their Autumn season kicks off with Mozarts The Magic Flute from 13th October, Agatha Christies And Then There Were None from 21st October, and Alison Steadman in Alan Bennetts Enjoy on 27th October.
The Access Consultation Group are meeting at The New Victoria Theatre, Woking, on Thursday 30th October from 12 noon to 1 p.m. to discuss making further progress in increasing access to, and accessibility of, the shows and films on offer - open to anyone. The theatre now regularly offers Signed Performances for the Hard of Hearing and Audio Described Performances and Backstage Touch Tours for the Visually Impaired and, with the help of members of the Access Group, it has been able to increase its reach to the relevant target audience for these services. Current members include representatives from Deaf Plus, the Surrey Association for Visual Impairment and North West Surrey Association for Disabled People. The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford is, for the first time ever, holding open auditions for Panto Babes, giving local girls the chance to appear in their traditional pantomime - this year Aladdin starring Nigel Havers as Abanazar. Sunday 12th October is the date, with registration starting at 2.30 p.m. And the girls should be between the ages of 7 and 16, able to sing, dance and smile! Rehearsals start on Monday 17th November, for 2 ½ weeks. Performances run from Fri 5th Dec 08 to Sun 11th Jan 09. Successful dancers will be required to attend every day of rehearsals and will then perform two shows every 3rd day. October shows begin and end with the children. We're Going on a Bear Hunt from 1st October, for ages 3 years plus, and Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs on 30th and 31st for ages 3-8 years. Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband runs from 6th October, Alan Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular from 13th October, and from 21st October the Globe's production of Liberty concerning a group of friends during the French Revolution, with Angelina's Star Performance, a ballet for 3 years plus, on 28th and 29th.
Crawley's The Hawth theatre is also presenting Aladdin for their pantomime this year, with their launch and photocall taking place on 7th October,and promising some amazing 3D effects and starring CBBC star Ciaran Joyce.
