Actors Reject SOLT Pay Offer Actors working in the West End have rejected the Society of London Theatre's "best offer" pay deal and will push for Equity's claim to be met in full. Currently the minimum for actors in the West End is £381 a week and Equity is pushing for £550, with £650 for those who are required to work on Sundays. According to a report in the stage, the rejection was unanimous and the actors are willing to strike to achieve it. A walkout is not imminent, Equity president Harry Landis told the newspaper, and no such threat has been, but the actors have agreed to consider strike action and it is a possibility for the future. Equity believes that, with the knowledge that performers are willing to take the action, SOLT will eventually agree to the claim. "It is down to the employers now," Equity spokesman Martin Brown told The Stage. "They know the members are unhappy about what SOLT has described as their best offer. It is really down to them now to make a decision if they want to get back with something better." The last London performers strike was in 2003 when the English National Opera Chorus strike over planned redundancies cost the company £50,000 in lost box office takings alone.
