More Sound of Music Casting It has now been confirmed that soprano Lesley Garrett will play the Mother Abbess in the West End production of The Sound of Music and that she will be joined by Simon Shepherd who will play Captain von Trapp. Also in the cast will be Lauren Ward (Baroness), Ian Gelder (Max), Sophie Bould (Liesel) and Neil McDermott (Rolf). Garrett will stay with the production, which opens at the London Palladium on 15th November, until April 2007, but will not play on Thursdays, when she will be replaced by Margaret Preece.
