Simon Shepherd

Shepherd Leaves Sound of Music

Simon Shepherd, who has played Captain von Trapp in the first two previews of the new production of The Sound of Music has withdrawn from the production, it has been announced. At a meeting between Shepherd, the director Jeremy Sams and producers Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian, it was decided that his operformance was not working in terms of the production and so he withdrew immediately. He will be replaced byAlexander Hanson (Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard and We Will Rock You) who began rehearsals today.

It is hoped that Hanson will appear in preview performances later this week and until then the part will be played by understudy Christopher Dickins.

A spokesman for Shepherd said, "Simon wants to wish Alexander Hanson and everyone involved in the production the very best of luck."
