Save the Scottish Opera Chorus

Equity Scotland has set up an e-petition to the Scottish Parliament about the proposed loss of the chorus of Scottish Opera. The petition says:

We the undersigned are concerned that loss of the talent of the full-time chorus of Scottish Opera may lead to the dismantling of the company.

We therefore call on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to safeguard the future of Scottish Opera by ensuring adequate funding which allows maintenance of a full-time chorus.

Lorne Boswell, Equity's Scottish Secretary, comments, "The current plans for the future of Scottish Opera are unsustainable and will lead to the destruction of this company by stealth. The idea of having a national opera company without a chorus is risible. The company must change, it must learn to live within its means, but it will cease to be an opera company if it does not have a full time chorus."

Lorne asks anyone concerned about the future of opera in Scotland to sign the petition, which can be found at http://itc.napier.ac.uk/e-petition-scot/viewtopic.asp?TopicID=27, a request which the BTG is glad to support!
