Keswick flood
The flooded Lake House close to the Theatre By the Lake

Keswick Theatre Supports Flood Victims

Keswick's Theatre by the Lake, on the banks of Derwentwater in the Lake District, is to donate the box office takings for one of the performances of its Christmas show, Grimm Tales, to victims of the floods on its doorstep in Keswick and Cockermouth.

Although there are pictures of the Lake House across the road from the theatre half underwater, Theatre by the Lake was fortunate to suffer little more than a flooded car park, although nine members of staff have suffered from the floods and others have had to take long detours to get to work, whilst the lorry bringing the scenery from York only just got through to allow the production to open on time.

Grimm Tales by Carol Ann Duffy and Tim Supple opens this Saturday, 28 November, and runs until 9 January, but the 7pm performance on Friday 4 December will be in aid of the appeal launched by Cumbria Community Foundation and Workington MP Tony Cunningham to help those who have suffered financially due to the floods. A sold-out performance could provide a donation of more than £5000 to the fund.

Theatre by the Lake's executive director Patric Gilchrist said, "The people of Cumbria have given Theatre by the Lake outstanding support during its first ten years. This is an opportunity to show our appreciation and to support those who have suffered from the disaster."
